ReplyDeleteThe two fiction books I always come back to are Eve's Daughters by Lynn Austin and Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. So good, and based on Biblical truths. Austin has some great stuff, but I think that one will always be my favorite.
ReplyDeleteTrend Breakers by Kelly Westerfield is a great nonfiction read about finding true friends in a shallow world.
i love so many books it's hard not to write down a hundred titles, but here are a couple of my favorites, ZVI, one of the best books, if you liked Unbroken, you'll love it. I'm reading Stepping Heavenward right now, I just finished, Count of Monte Cristo. For Children's books, the Gospel Story Bible, God's wisdom for little boys. Make way for Ducklings. A favorite devotional is Keep a Quiet heart, by Elisabeth Elliot. I could go on and on. Let me know if you enjoy any of them:)

DeleteI'm also a huge fan of Henri Nouwen to use as devotional or nonfiction. "In the Name of Jesus" and "Inner Voice of Love" are two of my favorites by him. I agree with so many of your choices, though! I love books, hence I'm spending my summer serving in a bible college library in Greece :)

ReplyDeleteI'll add "Evidence Not Seen" (an amazing story of a missionary woman), and "Stepping Heavenward" (one of my all-time favorites, that keeps encouraging me through the years). As for children's books (as in, short, illustrated ones), I love one called "The Empty Pot"... it teaches a great lesson!
I love a lot of the books on your list and I'm currently reading One Thousand Gifts; as a mother of 3 under four years old it's been life changing. I have read Hosseini's books over and over! I think you would love the book Sold by Patricia McCormick. It deals with child slavery in Calcutta's red-light district and is centered around a girl who never gives up her dream of escaping.

I was in need of a book list...
ReplyDeletetwo books I have read recently are "Stepping Heavenward" by Elizabeth Prentiss and "Let me be a Woman" by Elizabeth Elliot(both are sooo recommended). I read One Thousand Gifts late last summer while my family was going through a spiritual trial. It definitely made my outlook on life more positive and helped me to be grateful for the small things in life. I began my own one thousand reasons to be grateful...but still have a long way to go before I reach one thousand.

ReplyDeleteWas so pleased you enjoyed The Fault in Our Stars so much. It is a Top 5 book for me. LOVE it. As for children's books, I strongly recommend the Skippjon Jones series (about a feisty cat who think he is a brave chihuahua) and ANYTHING by Nancy Tillman (my current favorites are "On the Night You Were Born" and "I'd Know You Anywhere, My Love." Her words and illustrations are so beautiful--they make reading time with my little so special.

ReplyDeleteI read Humble Roots over the summer. It was so timely for helping me understand the layers upon layers of pride in me all the while holding me from simply swinging to the other side of the pendulum on the issues I struggle with. Approachable, yet thought provoking, couldn't talk about it without crying. I was extremely grateful for the book.
ReplyDeleteI literally read the last page of Where the Crawdads Sing today after forcing myself to put it down the last several days. Intriguing, to glimpse into a life completely foreign to me, complete isolation in a marsh. Gripping, to consider the internal emotional battles of such a life. And being a Charlotte Masoner, the natural history is quite astounding due solely to observation. Definitely moments of sexual content, but not over the top.
