An update.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for your sweet comments about our baby boy, and mostly for your prayers. When I started blogging, I never imagined stumbling into such a sweet, supportive community - and I'm so thankful I did. I feel like I know so many of you through your comments and emails over the last couple years even though we've never met. So thank you for loving me and our son so well.

A quick update... I've been scheduled for a more in-depth consultation and ultrasound at Vanderbilt Children's in a couple weeks where we'll see a maternal fetal specialist and learn more. According to the original radiology report, it looks like both feet may be turned or clubbed, but the first ultrasound was so inconclusive because baby was kicking like crazy the whole time. My midwife has assured me and reassured me that everything else measured perfectly, and their only concern is the baby's feet - nothing chromosomal or anything. So that helps me breathe a huge sigh of relief. If the baby does have clubbed feet, we'll meet with an orthopedic doctor about the serial casting process that he'll have to undergo beginning in the first couple days of his life. Picturing our newborn in thigh-high casts for the first months of his life is equally sad and cute. God knows.

We did hear that Little E is not actually so little... he's measuring in the 95th percentile for length. He's truly Shawn's son (who is just under 6'5"). So no wonder I've popped so fast. I'm growing a giant. :)

Still, we're praying for a miracle. Praying that conversations of casts and surgeries and specialists will only be hypothetical, and they'll see straightened out feet and give us a clean bill of health. But if that isn't God's will for us and for E, pray that whatever is wrong would be very clear to the perinatologist. I'll be sure to keep everyone updated.

  6. Another mom of twins here- I heard difficult news about our son while he was in utero- that he may have Trisomy 13 due to choroid plexus cysts on his brain which were found at 16 weeks. We had to wait until 30 weeks for confirmation, because there was a small possibility that they would close and it would never be an issue. It was either he would be fine, or that he wouldn't survive birth. I cried when I read your post the other day; so many memories- because no matter what you're dealing with, hearing any kind of news like that about your baby is heart wrenching, and the waiting is so hard. But it brought us to our knees and we received so many affirming gifts from the Word throughout those long weeks. I'll never forget the day when we found out the cysts had closed- 14 weeks of waiting and prayer made us grow in faith and trust. And today he's a completely healthy, normal, creative, smart 9-year-old boy who is such a joy to his twin sister and a huge blessing to us. And that is my prayer for your little boy, and you.

  7. a friend of mine from high school has a son with clubfeet, her firstborn as well. she started a blog about their experience with some of his most recent treatments, which you can find at http://clubfeetcorrection.blogspot.com/ . i'm sure if you'd like to reach out to her she would be happy to engage in a discussion with you :).

  8. I suffered from something called supraventricular tachycardia when I was pregnant with our daughter (our first too) that required several injections of a drug called adenosine. Every time I would pray to God that it was not going to hurt her and every time I would cry and ask, "Why me?" Our daughter is two months shy of her second birthday and she is a healthy, talkative, beautiful bundle of joy. She is a blessing!

If I could take away your worries and every mom who's received troubling news during a pregnancy, I would. My prayer for you and your husband is for good news at the next ultrasound. And of course, a healthy baby boy.
